Exubera

An Alternative to Daily Injections

How Exubera gives a nice alternative

Exubera Report

Exubera is the latest development in therapy for those with Diabetes.  Exubera, an alternative to daily injections of short-acting insulin, is a major breakthrough that was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration and should be available for purchase by mid-year.

The administration of Exubera requires no daily injections.  Instead, this powdered form of insulin is emptied into an inhaler, about the size of a glasses case, and inhaled.  This is delivered directly to the lungs (pulmonary delivery) and absorbed into the lung cells.

One major advantage of this development is that those who have a phobia of daily injections can get the therapy they require to maintain a healthy, well balanced lifestyle.  No longer are multiple shots daily required.  Of course, for Type I (Juvenile) Diabetes, Exubera doesn’t replace daily injections of long-acting insulin.  However, as an alternative, Exubera means that daily injections are reduced significantly.

Daily injections of insulin cannot compare to Exubera, either, because this powdered substance can be measured out in much more precise dosages.  This means that patients on what is referred to as a “sliding scale” have more exact information on which to base their dosage amounts.

Daily injections meant carrying around a syringe and having to leave a public area to take a shot, so that others were not made uncomfortable.  With Exubera, a diabetic will be able to take a dose of his or her medication without sneaking off to a restroom stall.  It will be no different than inhaling a dose of asthma medication.

Exubera is an incredible alternative to daily injections.  Without the need to take an injection daily, many more diabetics will have a less adverse reaction to the thought of insulin therapy, meaning that millions of lives will be changed, and thousands of lives could even be saved.
