Extensive Research Proves Rewarding

Exubera Report

Years of extensive research proves rewarding as Exubera is released.  The first pulmonary delivery of insulin (inhaled and absorbed into the blood stream through the lungs) has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration and is expected to be out on the market by mid-2006.

Extensive research, including years of clinical trials, has finally paid off.  Exubera is set to change the face of insulin therapy.  Although for many diabetics syringes cannot be eliminated completely (Exubera will not negate the need for Type I diabetics to inject a long-acting insulin), it will drastically reduce the number of shots required to control glucose levels.

Research on Exubera shows that inhaled insulin is just as effective as the classic method of injections.  However, Exubera will allow for many diabetics who refused to use a needle to receive the insulin therapy needed to maintain a healthy endocrine system that functions normally.

Exubera research has been an ongoing process for a number of years, with hundreds of both Type I and Type II diabetics participating.  At one point, it seemed as though the administration of insulin through the lungs was causing reduced lung functionality, and it caused Pfizer, the manufacturer of the drug, to postpone submitting their request for approval to the FDA for two full years.  However, it was discovered that this was a temporary and non-threatening side effect, and research continued until early this year, when Exubera was approved for non-smoking adults.

Research on Exubera has not proved it to be safe for those who smoke, have lung disease of any kind, or suffer from asthma.  Exubera research also does not prove the drug to be safe for use by children at this time.  Whether or not Pfizer will pursue these avenues of research in the future is unknown.  In the meantime, Exubera research has provided a great alternative to traditional insulin therapies.
